History of the Magnolia 56ers

In late 2002, a survey was sent to the local Department 56 retailers in central Mississippi. The survey served as a tool to gauge interest on the part of the retailers and the local collector base for establishing a club. In the summer of 2003, seven families made the commitment to lay the groundwork for the new club.

A marathon organizational meeting was held where by-laws were drawn up and officers were elected from the charter members. The highlight of the evening was the selection of a club name and logo...The Magnolia 56ers was born!

The members decided on monthly meetings through the remainder of 2003. These early meetings served as an opportunity for each to become better acquainted and share their own collecting experiences.

During this period, it was determined that future meetings would focus on how to build displays, share what was new and what was retired, where to acquire items, as well as learning everything possible about Department 56 and its new product lines.
